  • Environmental Responsibility

At Syntezia, environmental sustainability is more than a commitment: decarbonisation, the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions and the pursuit of sustainable development objectives are part of our statutes and are at the heart of our vision, mission and objectives.

  • Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility at the Heart of Our Mission

As a strategy and innovation company, our direct environmental footprint is relatively limited compared with more resource-intensive industries. Nevertheless, we recognise our responsibility to understand, reduce and continuously improve the environmental impact associated with our activities, including business travel, energy use, digital activities, purchasing and waste.

Reducing the Impact of Our Mobility

Mobility is one of the areas where we pay particular attention to our environmental footprint.

We aim to reduce unnecessary travel and raise awareness among our stakeholders about the environmental impact of transportation, particularly air travel. Whenever practical, we seek alternatives with lower emissions, especially train travel.

For local travel in Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland, we favour public transport, walking and active mobility, including buses, trams, trains, bicycles and scooters. We also encourage walking meetings and “walks and talks” when circumstances allow.

For travel outside the Geneva area, we favour the train wherever practical and seek to avoid flying for destinations that can reasonably be reached by train. We also encourage the use of virtual meetings and remote collaboration to reduce unnecessary travel distances.

Our approach also considers the organisation of exceptional business trips: limiting delegation sizes where possible, favouring direct travel and ensuring that travel is justified by the purpose of the meeting or event.

    Energy and Resource Management

Our everyday operations include measures designed to use resources more responsibly.

We focus on mindful energy consumption in our office and operational activities and have implemented practical measures such as energy-efficient lighting and responsible heating and cooling.

Waste reduction is also part of our approach. We use digital-first processes where possible to reduce paper consumption, have implemented recycling practices and seek to reduce unnecessary waste.

Our sustainability reporting also identifies Scope 3 emissions as particularly important for a service-based SME. These include business travel, employee commuting, purchased goods and services, IT equipment and other indirect sources within our value chain.

    Responsible Purchasing

Sustainability also influences the way we make purchasing decisions.

We seek to consider the environmental and social characteristics of the products and services we purchase, including the lifespan, repairability, energy efficiency and recyclability of IT equipment.

For example, Syntezia's original sustainability material describes the use of environmental labels such as Energy Star and EPEAT, as well as attention to the restriction of hazardous substances and circular-economy principles when evaluating IT equipment.

Where possible, we favour local suppliers in order to support the Geneva economy and reduce transportation-related emissions. We also consider traceability, sustainable materials, working conditions, human rights and environmental practices when selecting suppliers and service providers.

    Protecting Soil and Biodiversity

Environmental responsibility extends beyond carbon emissions.

Syntezia recognises the importance of healthy soils for food production, clean water, air quality, climate regulation and biodiversity. We therefore support the protection and regeneration of soil and have signed the Mission Soil Manifesto, confirming this commitment.

We are also interested in biodiversity protection and nature-based approaches through our broader innovation activities and ecosystem. Protecting natural systems is considered an important part of the transition toward more sustainable and resilient economies.

    Food and Everyday Choices

Syntezia also considers the environmental impact of food choices.

The original sustainability approach recognises the connection between food, greenhouse-gas emissions, land and water use and biodiversity. As part of this commitment, Syntezia encourages reducing consumption of ruminant meat and favouring alternatives such as legumes and cereals.

At the same time, our approach is to remain attentive to quality and enjoyment while favouring healthy, seasonal and local food, including products carrying recognised quality or origin labels such as organic certification.

    Understanding and Measuring Our Footprint

We recognise that good environmental management begins with understanding our impact.

Syntezia therefore seeks to calculate its CO₂ emissions as accurately as possible and regularly considers the environmental impact associated with digital activities, transport and other operational choices.

Our sustainability reporting also establishes a longer-term ambition to improve the measurement of Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and to use this information to guide future reduction efforts.

    Our Long-Term Aim

Our objective is not simply to make isolated environmental improvements, but to continuously reduce our footprint and integrate sustainability into everyday decisions.

Through better measurement, lower-impact mobility, responsible purchasing, energy efficiency, waste reduction and protection of natural resources, we aim to make environmental responsibility a consistent part of the way Syntezia operates and grows.
